“Above all, what matters is not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying”

Step Out in 2011 with Maggie’s Lanarkshire

Following a successful trial period, the Maggie’s Lanarkshire team is delighted to announce that the popular monthly Walking Group has now been incorporated into the centre’s permanent timetable.

Funded by the Big Lottery Fund

The walking group is run in partnership with Getting Better Together (GBT) Shotts Healthy Living Centre, and anyone affected by cancer is welcome to come along. The GBT team provide a walk leader and a minibus, which allows walks to take place at a variety of venues across Lanarkshire. The routes have been chosen so that folks of all different abilities can enjoy them and build up confidence with gentle exercise. One of the Maggie’s staff team joins each walk too.

Walkers meet at Maggie’s Lanarkshire at 10am before heading off by minibus to the chosen venue. On arriving back at Maggie’s at lunchtime, everyone enjoys home-made soup and a chat, often staying on for the drop-in relaxation session at 2pm.

The walking group meets on the second Thursday of every month, weather permitting. The schedule of walks is available from Maggie’s Lanarkshire, and forthcoming walks include Strathclyde Park on thirteenth of January, and Kirkfield Bank/Crossford on tenth of February. Anyone who is interested in coming along the walking group should contact the Maggie’s Lanarkshire team.

Maggie’s Lanarkshire is a homely, welcoming place where people with cancer, their family and friends can receive the support they need. Maggie’s is open for people to drop-in for information, emotional and psychological support and to develop skills that might help them to live more positively with their cancer.

For more information please drop into Maggie’s Lanarkshire, beside Wishaw General Hospital, on weekdays from 9am-5pm, call on 01698 358 392, email lanarkshire@maggiescentres.org or visit www.maggiescentres.org.

The Big Lottery Fund distributes half of the National Lottery good cause funding across the UK. The Fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.
